The Dante GBRL Podcast 007

I am proud to present you the 7th episode of my very own Podcast made for BPB. As we are living some quite hot days in Budapest right now, it was a huge pleasure for me to dive into mixing and create this 1-hour set.

I've kicked off the podcast with the magnificient MK remix of Chris Malinchak's "So Good to Me", then complimented it with Beckwith's playful retake of "Sapphire" by Late Night Alumni. The whole set goes in a nice deep direction until it came to my mind that I just cannot miss out Kort's "No Fear" - an amazing track with one of the biggest basslines so far this year, which I only discovered last week! From then on, it's all about hard hitting dark beats and chunky basslines that will hit you like a cool Long Island ice tea on a hot afternoon!

lightsout - Summer Promo mix

I always encourage you to send your mixes and productions to Budapest Bonkers if you would like to get featured on the blog. So did Tamás aka lightsout who is not only an aspiring DJ from Veszprém, Hungary but also a blogger at the well known Trafóállomás blog as well.

His summer promo mix isn't really what you would expect from a typical summer promo. Following his own words: "it's not a feelgood summer selection as I tried to turn things a little darker - it's more of a house-techno-future techno mixture".

So, if you're tired of the shiny and girly nudisco stuff, just head over right here and taste a bit of cool darkness. And don't forget to show a bit of respect to lightsout on Mixcloud!

Phoenix - Trying To Be Cool (Soul Clap remix)

They're called Cnyce and Elyte aka E-Heavy, they're doing some of the hottest tracks and remixes in house land right now, they manage their own label and right now they've decided to make a FREE remix of one of the hottest indie tracks around. How can you compete with such a massive amount of coolness?

Yep, I'm talking about Soul Clap.

The guys weren't just so generous to share their remix of "Trying To Be Cool" by the way-too-cool French band Phoenix, but also made it available as a free download for their fans. And we are happy as the list of Phoenix remixers got a brand new heavyweight name on it, following Hot Natured and Breakbot (whose remixes are also BPB favorites btw!).

Check it out, listen, download, love, share!

PREVIEW: Mumbai Science - 1975 EP

So here comes the preview of the next big thing coming from the Mumbai Science guys on Lektroluv - which I should've posted days ago! Epic stuff!

Mumbai Science presents their latest work, the "1975 EP". Two no-nonsense club-tracks, inspired by dirty warehouse techno but cheerfully colored with weird glitchy synths and catchy vocal snippets. The title track "1975" features a deep male voice carelessly asking the crowd “So, what do you wanna do”. The answer is self-evident: "Party all night long and forget about our boyfriends!"

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But not when we’re talking about supermodels. The second track, "Models", follows the same recipe as "1975": overdriven warehouse techno extravagance with the lyrics paying tribute to Mumbai Science’s favorite… models. Some will say it’s a blatant rip-off of Teachers from Daft Punk, others will call it a homage. But does Mumbai science even care? Kiesekoms explains: “I don’t know man, we just made this track on one of those drunk afternoons. Is it getting released? Really? Well, I just hope we won’t get beat up by the French mafia again.

PREVIEW: Panos & Sentenza - French 75 EP

Off Recordings' evergrowing catalogue reaches up to 61 and continues to showcase new talent to the world. This time welcoming Panos & Sentenza, a multi-territorial duo combining influences from the seminal US midwest and the warm coasts of the Greek mediterranean, who achieve a both soulful and body-moving sound.

First track is "French 75" showing the Chicago influences in full with a jackin' groove and lush vocals all topped with a killer bassline, deep and sexy.

Already OFF family members, Leftwing and Kody come back with their signature sound to provide a more garage but equally sexy remix, these guys know how to build a hit and they prove it once again.

"Vigilante" shows the duo versatility to close the EP with a darker, slower pace... A soulful, deep trip for those early moments in the night.

A truly essential package.

Shae B - Stripped Down pt. 2

It is always nice to wound up heavily nodding to an up-and-coming DJ's mix, and this was the case when I first ran into Los Angeles-based Shaelen Burroughs' brand new set, titled "Stripped Down pt. 2".

Shae perfectly delivers what I'm really into right now: chunky sexy beats complimented with some dirty sounds. Her mixing is really nice as well, as blending in Huxley's and Tale of Us' tracks could be a real challenge sometimes.

So, I really hope that you're into this selection as much as I am, and if you're somewhere in the western US, you can catch Shae at EDC as well...until then enjoy Stripped Down!

TMX - Summer Starter

Kollektiva and Sticky Beats mastermind TMX is very generous to his fans when it comes to sharing brand new mixes. Besides the weekly Kollektiva show on RCKO.fm, he surprised us again with his seasonal favorites. This could be a nice blueprint for TMX livesets during this summer, as he's not just heading to most of the summer festivals but also a resident in the Budapest nightlife whether you're talking about Kolor, Corvintető or AnKERT. Let's check this out.

He emphasizes that the mix itself is eclectic as it is possible. Starting out with Benoit & Sergio's superb "$100 Bill" from Hot Creations, he pours Disclosure, Leftwing & Kody, Amine Edge and many other really up and running names, as the set evolves around the sexy house and nudisco sound for a bit more than 60 minutes.

This one is heavily favored by BPB, so just go ahead and listen!

PREVIEW: Foamo - Release Me EP

Rinse FM radio host and sub-heavy house maestro Kye Gibbon aka Foamo is set to release his new EP through Rinse on 17 June. Over the past five years Foamo has carved himself out a powerful niche in UK club music with his takes on house drawing strong influence from growing up with drum & bass, garage and grime.

On his Release Me EP the presence of those style is as tangible as ever - sub-bass is hard, punchy and optimised to rattle through the chest: drums are swung to a lean garage flex - and they1're put to the service of some of the most multi-faceted music he's produced to date.

The title track "Release Me" is a slinky vocal house track led by synths swimming in reverb and delay, while tiny flickering breaks and hand-struck percussion weave their way through its central beat.

"Running" is an infectious affair, finding its chiming melodies driven along by a huge, pulsating bassline which leaps joyfully around the register.

"Without You" is a harder edged, but again toes a thrilling line, where its immersive breakdowns build into explosive salvos of bass and percussion.

PREVIEW: Joseph Capriati - Awake / Fratello

The first glimpse of Joseph Capriati's "Self Portrait is revealed, as Drumcode drop a double a-side single from the hugely anticipated second album by techno's heir apparent. The tracks "Fratello" and "Awake" have been highlights of Capriati's sets in recent months, punctuating performances at landmark gigs such as his main room closing set at the internationally respected Time Warp Festival in Germany and maiden coast-to-coast tour of the US.

"Awake' was born out of Joseph's longstanding love affair with Holland's famous Awakenings parties and is a homage to the fanatical fans who turn out en masse at each event. Tense, atmospheric and relentless, the track captures the feeling of a momentary release of energy that is such a part of the high-octane Awakenings experience.

"Fratello" has achieved anthem status since it debuted in Capriati's sets last September, such is the reaction it has garnered from fans. A work of rare beauty, this is techno at its most emotive, as hypnotic melody is laced with intricate key patterns, while the Italian's trademark shaking percussion propel the track forward.

PREVIEW: Mathew Jonson - Her Blurry Pictures

For many the ultimate visionary and sonic wizard, Mathew Jonson delivers a rare solo album for Crosstown Rebels with "Her Blurry Pictures", encompassing a new evolution in his rhythmically complex and timeless approach over eight fluid and rich compositions.
Although distinctive as Jonson's production style, "Her Blurry Pictures" marks the end of a phase for the Canadian in which he used music as a tool of escapism and looking within. Predominantly made in his studio in Berlin in 2012.

Jonson is one of the most well respected names in electronic music with past releases on M_NUS, Perlon and his own Wagon Repair label. His first output in three years, the album follows two solo singles on Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels imprint in 2012

Disclosure feat. AlunaGeorge - White Noise (ValyMo remix)

Valentin Morelle aka ValyMo has been one of the biggest up-and-coming talents in a very rich French future techno scene. Back in 2011, when I discovered his tracks I considered him as an underrated artist but since then a lot has changed. He gained support from the likes of Kissy Sell Out, Don Rimini, Fake Blood and many more while releasing tracks on labels like Boxon Records (the highly supported Love EP which was picked up by the whole future techno scene) or Plastic Toys or Ventuno Records.

Considering his newest - and FREE remix - it was an excellent choice, in my opinion. "White Noise" is definately one of those tracks from 2013 that we will remember for a long time. As debates going on whether Disclosure outclashed Daft Punk in album of the year consideration, it was apparent that every electronic subgenre will produce its own White Noise remix. So far I did not found such a nice bassy rework of the track (which in my opinion is quite hard to remix due to its trademark sound and the original's really high level of production) until ValyMo delivered his own rework. Check it out yourself and if you are into it, you only have to pay with a tweet to download this little monster.

Nervé - Summerism Mixtape

Nervé's mixes and productions were constant features on BPB earlier, so I was glad that he sent me his latest summer warmup mixtape. Nowadays he's not just one of the leading producers in the Hungarian electro and trap scene, but also took a step forwards in DJing with being a resident of EDG Szeged and having gigs in Serbia, France and some of the major Hungarian festivals.

Nervé described his mixtape as "nasty, exciting and disgusting bass music" with some electro, dubstep and trap bangers - including own remixes of Bastardfool and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Enjoy the madness!

Dante GBRL - June 2013 Promo Mixtape

I know it's a type of shameless self-promotion if I post my own mixes on consecutive days, but since it's the beginning of June I have to.

I've recently put together my newest monthly promo mixtape which focuses on the sound that I'm really into these days. A blend of house, nudisco and indie - if I have to describe it with genres. PREVIEW: Greg Pidcock - Blame Game

Awesome new preview of the newest release on Hot Creations. Let's kick off the summer!

Always surprising us with their A&R skills, Hot Creations are back with another outstanding release, this time from rising star Greg Pidcock, who is soon to release his debut album on the label. "Blame Game" is fresh and beautifully crafted with deep vocals and warm melodies, building effortlessly into sonic bliss. On remix duty, Minus favourite Hobo picks up the pace to deliver two on point reworks aimed steadily at the dance floor.

A formally trained artist, Greg received his BFA in Intermedia & Cyberarts when he was 20. Introduced to Jamie Jones and Lee Foss in 2012, Pidcock was quickly signed to the label and has spent the last year working on his debut album. Studying in Montreal he soon became the Creative Director at Montreal’s legendary Cherry nightclub, DJing alongside legends. This led to the formation of Bad Pony Records with Tone Depth of Bedrock fame - a process, which firmly cemented his goals of creating music and art. Currently the resident DJ at the renowned Velvet Nightclub in Montreal and working with Turkish composer, Mercan Dede, as a sound engineer, Greg Pidcock is about to explode onto the international scene with his blend of passionate, sexy, heavy house.

Member of the Minus family since 2007, Joel Boychuk aka Hobo very much holds his own identity. With an early Detroit influence he has explored his own form of techno expressionism: sometimes dark and abstract, others more sample heavy and groove based. With a lot of time spent on his recently released album ‘Iron Triangle’, Hobo now plans to focus on DJing after being an almost exclusively live performer for 6 years. Both original and remix have been featured heavily in Jamie’s recent sets..

Party Planner: D-Nox & Beckers /w NVC DJs @ Akvárium (06-07, Friday)

It's been a while since I posted some party planners here on the blog, but I definately think that it should be an essential part of Budapest Bonkers, so let's continue this great tradition.

The German duo of D-Nox & Beckers has been a crucial part of the house and techno scene (and earlier, progressive as well) during the last decade. They had numerous superb productions and remixes on huge labels like Tronic, Sprout Music, Suara, Kittball, Trapez, Baroque Records - just to name a "few". If you're wondering about what you'll hear tomorrow evening at Akvárium (due to the unfortunate flooding situation in Budapest, the organisers had to move the party from A38), here's a little teaser for your ears from D-Nox:

And for your eyes from NVC:

Venue: Akvárium Klub (1051 Budapest, Erzsébet tér)

Reelow - June 2013 Promo Mix

I've been following the work of Reelow for quite a while now and first of all, I have to state that he is one of the most underrated artists in the Hungarian house business. While having a huge amount of international releases over the last few years, I definately think that he deserves much more appreciation.

Reelow's sound features a unique blend of house and techish sounds - as you listen to his recent mix, you'll hear it - as the mix itself is pumping but also listenable. Another unique feature that it contains own productions and remixes as well which is quite rare nowadays. I would like to recommend his brand new Cocporn EP (great title choice) on Hustler Muzik.

Check it out and throw some like to Reelow on Facebook too!

The Dante GBRL Podcast 006

Hey everyone! I'm really happy to present you the 6th episode of my very own podcast, made for the Budapest Bonkers blog. As some of you may know, this Podcast focuses mainly on deeper sounds, such as sounds that you would like to hear in a midweek evening while loungin' after a hard day's work. Of course some stompin' beats might sneak inside, but I leave the heavier tracks for the Your Guide to the Weekend series - which I will also resurrect really soon!

This week's episode features some tracks from the latest installment, which I cannot resist to include again such as "No Eyes" from Claptone and Jaw or that absolutely fantastic summer track by Jorge Takei. Also some new ones can be found inside, just to make a honourable mention: Ben Pearce's remix of "Cool" by Le Youth - astonishing remix, I fell in love with it in the first second I heard it.

I'm still really eager to hear your comments and tips, so please listen, like, download, share and feel free to send me your opinions as well!

FREE DOWNLOAD: Useless Wooden Toys - Everybody

I've just received this beauty from the Italian nu disco powerhouse La Valigetta: a free tune from a big returner! Check out the newest production of Useless Wooden Toys!

After having collaborated with several Italian artits and musicians like Amari, S.W.I.M, Spiller, Uochi Toki, Ghemon, Entics, Dargen D'Amico or Sano Business, Useless Wooden Toys returns with their original disco soul made by a fun blend of italo disco, electro funk and house.

Their latest track, “Everybody”, is far a repetitive and catchy anthem. Useless Wooden Toys have always been fond of looping, but they also mix it up enough that the new song results engaging from beginning to end. Simply here, you get what you'd expect from a real disco sound.

“Everybody” is an enthralling progression of energic tension where the loop becomes more and more magnetic turning around the odd sample, that always represents the foundation of the Useless Wooden Toys 's music production.

Cajoline & Holic - Timeless Dream

I'm sure most of you remember the magical set of SpaceWalker Recordings head honcho Holic from a few weeks ago. Now he's returning, this time alongside with French producers Cajoline and with a massive collaboration titled "Timeless Dream".

This time the title perfectly fits the content: the guys took Donna Lewis' track from the 90s and transformed into a summer dream. Even the introduction takes away the listener, but just wait for the bassline to be introduced and it's pure summer bliss from thereon. In case you're wondering if this could get any better, it could: the track will be available for FREE DOWNLOAD in the next few days. So be sure to check back and grab this great track.

Deaf DJs - June 2013 Mix

The Budapest house and nudisco duo, consisting of Lafinski and Zunt or better known as Deaf DJs are back in action! Following a quite nice May (headlined by a superb gig at the Városliget Lake with Audioporncentral's Simon Iddol), their promo mix for June has been already released.

Considering the current amount of summer it's not a coincidence that the guys took a fairly darker direction with their selection, less sunshine and disco and more banging rhythms and techish sounds. The "almost obligatory" labels such as Noir Music and Get Physical Music are featured in the mix of course as well as the beautiful new single of Wankelmut "My Head is Jungle".

You do not want to miss this one as the mix also celebrates the launch of the weekly Deaf DJs parties at the Városliget Lake (stay tuned for more about the events!). I've been there and I'm pretty sure you don't want to miss that one, it's pure summer bliss.

If you liked the mix, you could also show some love to the guys RIGHT HERE!

PREVIEW: Filthy Rich - Room 808 EP

Funkpony Records has been one of the biggest up-and-coming shots in the world of nasty house music in 2013. The label is skyrocketing over the past few months and already reached its 6th release by June. Heston has been doing a great work with his label as he lured Toolroom and Great Stuff Recordings (among many others) artist Filthy Rich to the imprint for the newest installment. Now let's check what we have here.

The release follows the recipe of Funkpony's success, with "Turn It Around" complementing the dancefloor orientated title track "The Room 808". Remix treatments are coming from Latvia's Electricano, NastyFunk Records label boss Hendriks and of course, Funkpony label boss Heston.

02. The Room 808 (Heston remix)
03. The Room 808 (Hendriks rework)
