Hardwell - On Air (Yearmix 2013)

I rarely post EDM tracks or mixes nowadays - I should do it more often (this must be a new year's resolution). As the end of the year is all about the holidays, best of lists and other celebrations, I think the recently crowned no. 1 DJ totally deserves a post here.

Hardwell takes his fans on a weekly journey on his radioshow "On Air" and its last stop in 2013 must be a proper yearmix with his favorites from this year, packed with mashups and other special re-edits.

Venice Valley feat. MMM - Answers

The debut single of the highly talented Venice Valley duo called "Stay" caused quite a stir in the Hungarian music industry (and in blogland as well), so I was quite curious how they will keep up the strong start. Well, they didn't let me down.

The guys teamed up with the Norwegian girl duo MMM to release "Answers". The song itself is available for a few weeks now, and finally, a superb video has arrived too. The aim was to recreate a late 90s feeling with stunning dance moves and pretty girls - I think this was accomplished quite well.

The song itself pursues that airy, indie pop feel that characterised "Stay", except for a bit of dark touch: "Answers" raises the question of what would you do in such unbalanced situations when you're absolutely running low while you're partner is rising high (or the way around), how would you react in these situations when words are definately not enough. To find yourself an answer, just check check out Venice Valley's new video!

FREE: Par-T-One vs. INXS - I'm So Crazy (Lefthose remix)

I was scrolling through my e-mails when I discovered this promo from Italian producer Lefthose. I thought that let's take a look at this track, the artwork seems quite nice too. Then I heard this bassline, and it totally stuck in my head.

Lefthose made an excellent remix of Par-T-One's "I'm So Crazy" which was released earlier in 2012 on Erick Morillo's Subliminal imprint. The infectious UK garage bassline complimented with the effects and percussions from the original merges into a superb track. And yes, it's a free download, so it gets even better.

Don't hesitate, grab it and show Lefthose some love on Facebook!

PAR-T-ONE VS. INXS - I'M SO CRAZY (LEFTHOSE REMIX)

Danito & Athina - Deep Inside Your Love EP

With the 10th jubilee release, Jeudi presents a true love romance. The charismatic duo of Danito & Athina are delivering some funkyish, warm and sexy grooving tunes for the cold season. Danito is already familiar to you with great releases on labels like Cocoon and Moon Harbour. Together they are taking us on a journey passing the philly sound of the 70s, the funk disco love songs of the 80s to present times united in an addictive deep sleek sound.

A1
Deep Inside Your Love

Smooth as butter. Thats the sound we fell in love with when we heard it for the first time.

B1
Money Girl

Philly sound transferred to modern times. Could easily fit into classic blaxploitation movies like Super Fly but with the modern bass bumms.

B2
Really Like

The early 80s flavour when there was still the dying disco aera audible. Nostalgic sound we got a lot nice reactions on the floor with.

The EP is already supported by the likes of Tensnake, Larse, Kruse & Nürnberg and many more!

Release date is set for 3 January 2014.

TOP 100 Part One: 100-91

So, here's the first part of the Budapest Bonkers Top 100 of 2013. Remember, it was a really hard decision, there are so many really nice tracks here!

100. A/Jus/Ted feat. Miss Bee - Stay Up Here (Bonar Bradberry remix) [SOUTHERN FRIED]
This remix was released in May, but it couldn't get off my playlist ever since. Nice warmup track, excellent production by the half of PBR Streetgang.

099. Butch feat. Benjamin Franklin - Highbeams (Maceo Plex remix) [HOT CREATIONS]
Maceo Plex must have been rocked some dancefloors since February with this awesome dark progressive remix of "Highbeams".

098. False Image - Tunga [GET PHYSICAL MUSIC]
In my opinion, this is the best production of the Berlin-based False Image duo for this year - massive tech-house beats, great percussions, totally deserves a place on the top 100!

097. Le Youth - COOL (Ben Pearce remix) [ULTRA]
What a cool remix from Ben Pearce, high quality production which totally fits in various sets!

096. Bicep - Stash [AUS MUSIC]
After their breakthrough year in 2012, the Bicep duo clearly strengthened their status this year with this magnificient track!

095. PoE - Vintage Feelings [SPACEWALKER]
Just wondering how many beach sets included this track...great track from the Romanian producer!

094.  Quivver feat. Angel Hart - I Don't Wanna Wait (Ben Delay remix) [TOOLROOM]
Quivver returned with some pretty decent tracks this year to Mark Knight's Toolroom Records...speaking of the best, Ben Delay really maxed out this vocal house beauty!

093. Thomas Schumacher feat. Caitlin Devlin - Every Little Piece (Joris Delacroix remix) [ELECTRIC BALLROOM]
Electrifying remix of a superb vocal track, totally rocked the start of the summer!

092. Rudimental - Right Here (Hot Since 82 remix) [ASYLUM]
Nearly everything became gold that Hot Since 82 touched this year...his remix of "Right Here" is not an exception, it was championed by Pete Tong as an "Essential New Tune".

091. Mario Basanov feat. Monika Liu - Movin' On [FREEBIE]
The Lithuanian house sensation Mario Basanov closes out the first pack with this awesome laidback tune, which is totally free!

BPB TOP 100 of 2013 - preview and guidelines

Usually, at the end of each year music blogs are taking reviews of the year and snatch out the best and worst of each year. Nto so creatively I've decided to go in this direction as well and try to wrap up 2013. I was thinking about posting a top 10, then a top 20 then top 20 tracks and albums etc.

At the end, I've realised that the goal of the blog is to show multiple genres to electronic music fans around the world and let them discover the world of dance music via the newest tracks and mixes.

Thus, we have reached this point - I went through my music collection, my sets from this year and there were so many (and I mean  A LOT) fantastic tracks so I was just thinking: why not to make a top 100 for this year? I haven't done this before, it is a bit of an experiment, it is absolutely biased - but as I finished my list, I promise you that it is versatile - you will definately find some new awesome tracks that you have skipped through during the year. Also, I would be really curious about your lists or recommendations, so don't hesitate to share them on the BPB Facebook wall or on twitter or in e-mail to bpbonkers@gmail.com

The tracks will come in packages of 10, starting tomorrow (18 December 2013) and I will finish the top 10 on Monday. Of course, this week will feature a special "Your Guide to the Weekend" mix and on next week you will get a special "Best of BPB in 2013" mix as well.

A few words about the list (without names of course): I think it clearly shows the direction in which I'm currently heading - massive number of nudisco and indie dance tracks, complimented with some quality house and deep house tunes. Some labels present numerous tracks however I've tried to present one track per artist. Of course it wasn't easy, so there might be producers who have more than one track or remix on the list.

Please follow the BUDAPEST BONKERS FACEBOOK WALL and TWITTER as the countdown starts on Wednesday afternoon!

Douster - Iz U High EP

Asking the key questions of (post-)modern society...is a very bold move. Douster is down for bold moves. A passion for strategy and a certain political ambition are at the roots of his struggle to raise awareness thru his booty house music. So it doesn't come as a surprise to us when he, quite frankly, asks: „Iz U High”.

But not only that. In his art pieces he dares to tackle touchy topics such as 'size' from all kinds of different angles. And yes, he addresses the most fragile cornerstone of our society 'gender'. „Why Yo Shoe So Big” playfully risks and hence discloses the peaceful co-existence we're almost addicted to.

He wouldn't be Douster though if he wouldn't throw the first „Stone” to rebuild what he almost tore down. Let's hope he doesn't hit someone's head.

Don't know if you knew, but Curses just came back from the grave recently and we asked him to rephrase „Iz U High” for us. You can hear his immortal soul. Almost like the sirens singing: Less agitated, more deep - less reproachful, more bass. Mystic Populism? Fuck Yeah.

Damn. Turning all this into something political worked perfectly until Night Drugs brings back the drugs and adds the 2step. So let me sum this up:

„It's still wrong to be high, but it feels right”

Release date is set for 13 December 2013.

Your Guide to the Weekend Episode 022 - mixed by Dante GBRL

Though the weekend officially will start tomorrow in Hungary, I bet the clubs will packed tonight in BP as well, so why not post the newest YGGTW?

This is the "usual" 10-track compilation to start out your weekend, either by preparing for a massive club night, or just go out drinking with friends or laying on your couch all night long. Since it is December already, I tried to sneak in a bit of summer flavour in the mix, you'll hear it for sure!

This week's edition includes some banging new material again: Terace's remix of Rüfüs' "Tonight", or the new and already blogged remix of Kylie's "Slow" - courtesy of Kreap! Kicking it off with indie disco, then going in a bit deeper direction before closing it out with some banging UK house from Moda Black and MTA!

PARTY: Danny Avila @ Club Play (2013-12-07)

As EDM is being one of the focuses of blog as well and lately I didn't post any EDM-related material I thought this one would be a perfect choice: this party preview is dedicated to the debut of Danny Avila in Budapest - namely at Club Play!

Having hosted some huge names from the scene already this autumn, the club is clearly going for the top EDM club choice in Hungary. Hosted the Hungarian debut of Martin Garrix in October, then a monstrous party with Thomas Gold in November, followed-up with ATB, now it's time for the Spanish teen-idol to take over the decks.

Danny rocked hard all year long with some great singles like "Tronco" (out on Tiesto's Musical Freedom), "Voltage" or "Rasta Funk", while playing around the biggest festival in the world such as Tomorrowland, EDC, Coachella and more.

If you aren't pumped up so far I thought I would share a live performance with you, recorded at last months' Mayday Poland - this will surely convince you!

You'll find the party info at the end of this post, but here's the Facebook Event as well!

Kylie Minogue - Slow (Kreap remix)

The Australian nudisco superhero Benjamin Paul Crea or better known as Kreap returns with yet another free track while delivering his ass-moving superb disco sounds once again.

I've been following the Melbourne-based DJ and producer for quite a while now and just simply love his productions. He still delivers that "indieish" disco sound that I always loved as his tracks both fit into nudisco and electro sets.

This time he remixed Kylie Minogue's hit "Slow" which got some nice reworks over the last years (does Bobina or Max Graham ring a bell to anyone?), but this is a strong one for sure! Further to its coolness, it's totally free so don't hesitate and snatch it!

KYLIE MINOGUE - SLOW (KREAP REMIX)

Purple Disco Machine - Funk EP

There is hardly a better example of the expression "taking the world by storm" than the case of Purple Disco Machine. It only took a couple of releases for this gifted German to pack his schedule with gigs in top locations all over Europe and create a buzz within the dance music charts with his deep funk signature sound.

Now a steady part of OFF Recordings´ roster, he get back with yet another impressive pair of mind blowing songs.

"The Funk" all about the groove, a live bass disco infused sample working its way with clever drum arrangements and a hip hop vocal snippet including broken beat breakdowns, crazy percussion and a live environment vibe... A dancefloor jam for sure!

On "Magic Moll" the guy get deeper and provide a piano house monster, the rolling chords get perfectly complemented with a great bassline and vocal work, a feelgood track that will do the trick in that special time of the night.

Release date is set for 17 December 2013.

Your Guide to the Weekend Episode 021 - mixed by Dante GBRL

New weekend, new mix from BPB! Your Guide to the Weekend has reached its 21st episode, which is not a massive feature considering my laziness but I'm still proud to present you this newest installation.

Autograf's freebies

It is pretty evident that the number of up-and-coming nudisco/indie dance/deep house/future bass producers in the US is "too damn high". I'm considering this as a positive fact, so please let me introduce Autograf (in case you havent' heard about them so far).

Coming from the Forever on Vacation blog, these guys certainly know how to make sexy, chilled deep house and nudisco tunes and as an insanely cool move, release them for free.

I didn't hesitate a second to decide whether to post these beauties or not: a Marvin Gaye remix, an Amtrac remix with a free original track on top. Enjoy and show some love!

Today's daily deep mix comes from the British nudisco and deep house master Le Visiteur who recently sent me his latest mixtape.

Kicking off the 1-hour journey with some magical nudisco tracks, before reaching the depths of deeper and darker house tracks, Le Visiteur clearly shows why he is signed to Mighty Mouse's label and DJing alongside with household names such as Hot Since 82 or Lindstrom.

Enjoy the ride!

Mary Popkids - Nightdrive remixes

High flying indie pop band Mary Popkids recently released their single "Nightdrive" along with an epic video, and now the guys came up with the idea to release a remix EP of the track with electronic music remixes, courtesy of their friends and collaborators. Let's see!

You can find an electronica rework by We Plants are Happy Plants, a glitchier approach by iamyank, the usually massive bass-filled Drop The Cheese remix, a deeper version by Jabocca, the dub remix of DJ Slow and the usually unusual remix of Tropiic.

What is way too cool as well that the first 100 snatchers get free downloads of the remixes, so you better hurry up!

Richy Ahmed - The Drums EP

In the midst of the increasingly popular house music hurricane comes a fresh two track EP from one of the movement’s most promising talents, Richy Ahmed. Taking cues from hip-hop, techno, funk and disco, The Drums EP arrives on the 2nd of December via Hot Creations.

Just stretching his limbs in terms of his discography, in less than two years the London-based producer has gathered some series attention. From 2011’s slinky, deep house mover „Suck It” (also on Hot Creations) to his 80's chicago manipulation remix of Infinity Ink's „Infinity”, there’s always an enviable glisten about his work. His wizardry behind the decks lead to him being named resident DJ at DC10's Paradise this summer with the season coming to an end in late September.

„The Drums” got its maiden plays during Richy's Boiler Room Set and the takeovers of Paradise Ibiza. The EP steps out of the blocks with definite verve. Title track, „The Drums”, a hip-house barnstormer of a track it massages a buttery-smooth rolling bassline into a four-to-the-floor backdrop with contagious results. Legend, Kevin Knapp, jumps on vocal duty dropping in and out with praise to 'the drums'. On the flip side, „101 Jam” is a rolling analogue slice of deep house brilliance. Here, Richy pitches skittering hi-hats and hyperactive synth movements atop a robust bassline foundation. It proves homage to the brand of house celebrated right from the genre’s genesis.

Jägerverb - Septimus EP

Let's kickoff this cold November Monday with a superb preview from Lektroluv, the leading Belgian future techno imprint - courtesy of Jägerverb.

After the banging Phosphenes and Titan EP’s, Jägerverb is now back on Lektroluv to present for your aural pleasure the trio of sonic delights that is the Septimus EP.

Conceived at a carnival in central São Paulo, Jägerverb was exposed to the infectious grooves of rhythm and melody from the earliest stages of his foetal development. However, the child was not born on Brazilian soil. Instead, Jägerverb entered into the isolated civilisation of an unchartered island some distance from the North-West coast of France. Jägerverb soon became disillusioned by his company and surroundings after hearing rumours that the locals frequented bars and clubs offering exclusively commercial dance and drum and bass. But, by some fortunate coincidence, he became acquainted with a band of rebels dedicated to the distribution of house and techno .mp3's illegally imported from overseas. Jägerverb was educated by the rebels on the rich abundance of music available beyond the island’s shores. He was taught of bizarre foreign instruments known as ‘computers’ and ‘synthesisers’, the operation of which would allow him to mimic the musical grooves he so adored. And so Jägerverb plotted his mission to escape the entrapment of the island. Armed with a laptop and a bottle of elk blood infused liqueur, Jägerverb set to work creating grooves of his own.

„Brocken Spectre” was already road tested by Daniel Avery in his Boiler Room TV mix. Do not sleep on this.

Release date is set for 9th December.

Jägerverb - Septimus EP
Tracklist:
01. Jägerverb - Broken Spectre
02. Jägerverb - Septimus
03. Jägerverb - Tilde

Solution - Feels so Right remixes coming on Toolroom

A timeless classic that has been sampled, referenced and aspired to since its inception, Toolroom Records now presents a fresh new remix package of Solution’s unforgettable „Feels So Right” from some of today’s most exciting producers, Friend Within, Lars Vegas, Joe T. Vannelli and WhiteNoize.

One of New York’s finest and most prolific DJs, Victor Simonelli was one of the early pioneers of the unique NYC underground dance music movement that is now religiously followed by the clubbing faithful the world over. Having already been involved in many high profile projects, it was his release of „Feels So Right”, under the guise of Solution, that cemented Simonelli’s status among the house elite.

UK man of the moment, Friend Within, delivers a fresh, deep & rolling update of the original, already receiving strong support with its first airing from Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1) and Shadow Child (Rinse FM); a sure fire underground hit if ever there was one.

With a strong reputation for solid house grooves, Dutchman Lars Vegas digs out the old school synths to deliver an energetic and cleverly pitched take on „Feels So Right”; this mix is infectious and will be heavily playlisted across many genres of DJ.

Next up, renowned Italian producer and DJ, Joe T. Vannelli’s ‘Diva’ Remix takes no prisoners; it’s a heavy, techy, peak time onslaught taking the original to totally new and diverse territory.

Following a string of successful remixes and releases, America’s finest disco house duo WhiteNoize deliver an up to date take on ‘Feels So Right’. Keeping the soul and ethos of the original, their remix is a tribute to their style, keeping it accessible to all.
A stunning set of remixes to compliment a true house classic.

Mia Dora - You in the Future EP

Hot off the back of a single on Moda Black, and a remix of Romanthony on Glasgow Underground. British duo Mia Dora, drop „You In The Future” via Kerri Chandler’s MadTech imprint this November.

Brit duo Mia Dora, have been making quite the names for themselves since stepping onto the scene in 2010, earning their initial wave of support off the back of remixing Roots Manuva’s, „Get To Get” for Big Dada, which was picked up by Radio 1 aficionado’s Giles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs and Rob Da Bank, a striking indication of the pairs undeniable talent. Fast forward two years and the duo have been snapped up for Jaymo & Andy George’s Moda imprint, and have firmed up their name as one of the hottest acts of 2013 having been enlisted to rework Romanthony, Walker & Royce and Grum.

Title track „You In The Future” kicks things off, seeing the duo embrace a rawer, more upfront focus in comparison to previous singles. Smoothly shuffled drums lead the way, while cosseting Rhodes, a bumpy, sub-driven bass-line and a classic organ hook build the melodic movement. Things intricately evolve throughout the tracks seven-minute duration, with baroque changes in the structure, and additional elements such as a hypnotic acid line, keeping things intriguing and evolving dynamically as the record blooms.

Following is „After The Dog”, the duo again opt for a rough and rugged feel with the drums, while an insistent rounded sub bass drives the groove, and consistently varied classic chord stabs fuel its energy levels. Drawn out reversed sweeps then build tension alongside sporadic percussive rolls, to create a profound impact when reverting back to the sturdy foundations. To close the release Mia Dora offer up an ‘Extended Edit’ of ‘You In The Future’, doing exactly as it says on the tin and drawing out the infectious groove for extended mixing pleasure.

Release date is set for 25 November 2013.

Fridge Festival 2013 Spotlight

This Thursday marks the start of this year's Fridge Festival in Budapest, which returns after a two year long hiatus. Considered as a paradise for both winter extreme sports and electronic music lovers, I'm pretty sure that this one will cause a stir during the weekend in BP. Having hosted acts like Nero, Steve Aoki, Pendulum and many more during its previous editions, this year's Fridge Festival is aiming to return to the premier league of winter music festivals as well.

It would be quite a task to preview the whole lineup, so I've decided to make it a bit easier, by posting 5 livesets from 5 of the most awaited acts relating to the electronic music lineup of the festival. So, let's kick it off, here are the 5 acts that you must see if you're going to Fridge!

For all infos on the venue and the tickets, just check out the official website or the Facebook event of the festival.

ANDRO
(11-22, Friday, Party Arena, 23:30 CET)
I don't think that I have to introduce one of the best known DJs of Hungary to anyone, here's a regular at all of the biggest festivals in the country, while touring around in the meantime as well and producing sick electro and EDM tracks as 1/2 of Nobody Moves.

CROOKERS
(11-22, Friday, Party Arena, 01:00 CET)
Right after Andro, the now one-man show Crookers will take the stage to test you with bass-filled music all over the place. Right after the release of "Ghetto Guetta" on Skrillex's OWSLA label, it's going to be a massive for sure with Phra's eclectic and heavy sounds.

PAUL KALKBRENNER
(11-23, Saturday, Main Stage, 01:00 CET)
Being one of the (or THE) most popular electronic music acts in Hungary, Paul Kalkbrenner will take his place on the main stage as the headliner of the Saturday lineup. Having released dozens of successful quality tracks, I'm really looking forward to a set that will be trippy, pulsating and full of Paul's own productions. Just like he did at Sonar in Barcelona.

JAY LUMEN
(11-23, Saturday, Party Arena, 22:00 CET)
Consistent as ever, Jay Lumen just keeps pumping out tons of quality productions with releases on 100% Pure, Suara and Tronic alone in this year. He will kick off Saturday's festivities in the arena.

JAMES ZABIELA
(11-23, Saturday, Party Arena, 02:30 CET)
The super-talented mixmaster from Britain will take over the Party Arena on Saturday with his soundstorm full of special effects. Can't miss!
